Hage & Hage LLC

Green Practice

We advise on the spectrum of issues related to green development. Our attorneys and consultants have the vision and collective expertise to support our clients’ sustainable efforts.

  • Environmental land use projects
  • Financing and implementation of renewable energy projects
  • Green investing
  • Sustainable development and the certification of green building and community projects

The effective implementation of sustainable projects affects every aspect of a community. During construction we created a green building education initiative; through this initiative we have provided tours to members of the public, local business owners, politicians and utility companies. The building is a living, breathing model of how energy efficient technologies and sustainable methods can be applied to benefit building owners, occupants and the environment. The tour demonstrates the green features of the building, which include::

  • Economy & job creation
  • Public utilities
  • Telecommunications efficiency
  • Air & water quality
  • Waste management
  • Public health

Funding & Implementing Green Initiatives

You’re seeing green.  We agree—sustainable development is the right move, but you need a plan & the capital to support that plan in order to transition to a new model.

Our attorneys & consultants unite municipal & business entities that want to do more for the world with the public and private funds that sponsor green initiatives.

We find partners that care and then we help you develop the relationships that promote green construction and development:

We generate the leads, negotiate the terms, and assist with municipal and state & federal compliance.

We can help you achieve success with your green initiatives through integrated design team and project development as well as manage risk through negotiation of proper contracts to meet the objectives you require.

Greening Our Growing Practice

Green initiatives start at Hage & Hage LLC.

We bought a vacant building in 2006 and set about renovating it in the most intelligent way we could imagine, making it a prime model of best practices for green construction and innovation.  Our staff moved into the building in November 2008.

During construction we created a green building education initiative; through this initiative we have provided tours to members of the public, local business owners, politicians and utility companies. The building is a living, breathing model of how energy efficient technologies and sustainable methods can be applied to benefit building owners, occupants and the environment. The tour demonstrates the green features of the building, which include:

  • LED & compact fluorescent lighting
  • Daylight harvesting & occupancy-light sensors
  • Geothermal HVAC system
  • In-floor radiant heat
  • Thermally efficient windows and glass
  • Vegetated roof
  • Innovative storm water management
  • Recycled & recyclable materials
  • Water saving fixtures
  • Energy-Star or higher computers & appliances

Our passion for innovation is reflected in the design, construction and operation of our LEED® certified office building. We have been able to inspire and lead a local sustainability movement which now is spreading through Central New York. Our practice is at the intersection of law, business and sustainability and, as such, we are working with the Cornell University School of Landscape Architecture, Hamilton College, Utica College and a number of local municipalities to advance sustainability and energy conservation. We use our building as a pedagogical tool to educate members of the community on sustainable measures such as geothermal heating and cooling, energy efficient lighting, healthy indoor air quality, passive and active solar energy, green IT, paper reduction, green cleaning, recycling programs and green purchasing. We have allowed organizations within the community to hold meetings and functions in the building and we have provided staff-led tours several times a week. So far, we have been able to demonstrate sustainability to over 1,000 individuals through various events at our LEED® certified office building.

Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design

In September of 2009 we achieved LEED® NC Gold Certification for our building from the Green Building Certification Institute.

LEED ® certification provides independent, third-party verification that a building project meets the highest green-building and performance measures. All certified projects receive a LEED ® plaque, which is an internationally recognized symbol demonstrating that a building is environmentally responsible, profitable, and a healthy place to live and work.

We can help you pursue certification for your green initiative whether it is through the USGBC’s LEED ® certification program or another certification program.

Consultant Amy Hilts is a LEED-Accredited Professional and is uniquely qualified to facilitate and administer your efforts to meet the highest standards of environmental and energy efficient design.
